UWS2 Match Day 1 Preview | LCFC vs Michigan Stars FC

The United Women’s Soccer League Two (UWS2) season has arrived! Our Women finally kick off their season tomorrow night, as they travel to face Michigan Stars FC.

Heading in opening weekend, we look to get off to strong start in what we expect to be a very competitive Great Lakes Conference. Our conference opponents include AFC Plymouth, Corktown AFC II, Detroit City FC II, FC Midland, Grand Haven Admirals, Legends FC, Michigan Stars FC, North Oakland Soccer Company (NOSC), Rebels FC and Thundercats SC.

While this will be our first match of the season, a few teams have already started their season. Corktown, one of the expected favorites to win the conference is off to a 1-0-1 start and sits on top of the table with 4 points after a draw with Grand Haven and a victory over Michigan Stars. Thundercats SC, a new club based out of New Baltimore, MI came out of the gates very strong with a resounding 12-0 win over AFC Plymouth.

Key Matches

  • Our first home match of the season will be next week, May 27th where we’ll host Michigan Legends
  • On June 27th, we host Corktown AFC II which we believe will be one of our biggest home matches of the season against a very strong Corktown squad
  • We have two big away matches to end the season. On July 15th, we head to Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck to face Detroit City FC II, and then on July 18th we head to the West side of the state to take on Grand Haven Admirals

Coach Jeremiah “JB” Belton:

“I am very excited to get back to playing soccer matches. With everything we have all been through this last year, it’s great to see we have a chance to play. I know the ladies were disappointed with not getting to play an official season last summer so they have been working hard to prepare for this season.

Even though things still aren’t quite back to normal, we are excited to be part of a rapidly expanding league. As GM, Head coach, and #girldad it brings me great pleasure to be able to be part of this incredible growth in women’s soccer.

This summer promises to be filled with excitement and I look forward to leading the ladies to a very successful season!”

UWS2 Season Schedule Released

We’re excited to announce that our inaugural United Women’s Soccer (UWS2) league schedule has arrived! Just like with our men’s team, our women’s 2020 league season was canceled due to the pandemic, however, our women did get the chance to compete at the UWS Stadium Showcase at Keyworth Stadium in Detroit.

The season gets started on May 21st against Michigan Stars FC, followed by our home opener just 6 days later at Schoolcraft College against Legends FC on May 27th.

Key matches include our away game against Detroit City FC II on July 15th, where we’ll face off against our former women’s head coach in George Easter, who will lead DCFC’s II squad in its first season. We also look forward to hosting a very competitive Corktown AFC II squad on June 27th.

In total, we’ll have 10 league games with 5 being at home in an unbalanced schedule. We’ll compete in the Great Lakes Conference which will be an all Michigan-based conference and will include Corktown AFC II, Detroit City FC II, Grand Haven Admirals, FC Midland, Michigan Legends (Brighton, MI), Michigan Stars (Washington Township, MI), North Oakland SC (Waterford, MI), AFC Plymouth, Rebels FC (Macomb, MI), and Thundercats SC (New Baltimore, MI).

We’ll have more details on our roster soon and ticket information will be available later this week!
