Match Recap | Livonia City Battles to 1-1 Draw in MWPL Opener

Auburn Hills, MI (April 17th, 2021) - Livonia City FC (0-0-1, 1 point) battled Inter Detroit (0-0-1, 1 point) to a 1-1 draw in the first-ever Midwest Premier League match on Saturday night.

Inter’s Irvin Castro scored the first goal in league history in the 50th minute, after a breakdown by the LCFC backline led to a quick counter-attack that was slotted home at the back post.

LCFC tied things up in the 67th minute when Mohamed Miri leaped over the Inter defenders and headed in Conor Reaume’s cross for the club’s first MWPL league goal.

Head Coach, Gaven King:

“First off, props to Jorge Medina, Inter Detroit, and the great referee crew on an exciting first game in the league. I’m proud of what our coaching staff has done with implementing and improving our player development.

However, there is still plenty to do and improve on. We did have the majority of the possession, but what we do with it is just as important as having it. I’m proud of the team for staying focused after the breakdown that led to the goal and proud they fought hard to equalize in the second half.”

Match Notes:
