Double Matchday Weekend | MWPL & Amateur Cup Preview

LCFC heads into a packed weekend with two matches in both league play and the 2nd Round of the Amateur Cup. We look to get things back on track against LK St. Clair after the heavy 4-1 loss to West Michigan Bearings last weekend.

Based in Mount Clemens, Michigan, this will be LK St. Clair’s first league match of the season. A local foe and Michigan Premier Soccer League (MPSL) rival, both clubs are quite familiar with one another.

Due to the Amateur Cup match being rescheduled to this Sunday, LCFC and LSC will kick off Friday at 8 PM, one day earlier than originally scheduled. Friday’s game will also be the club’s first at our new home field, Schoolcraft College.

We’ll also have tickets available for the first time this season! With this being our first game at Schoolcraft College, we’d like to remind fans that masks will be required and we ask everyone to please practice safe social distancing. There will also be a limit of 250 fans in attendance at the remaining games this season. Tickets for Friday’s game are available at this link: bit.ly/3t3G3tH.

While all focus is on Friday’s match first, we’ll take on Ann Arbor FC, a club we’re undefeated against, this Sunday in Toledo, Ohio (seriously).

Match Recap | Livonia City Battles to 1-1 Draw in MWPL Opener

Auburn Hills, MI (April 17th, 2021) – Livonia City FC (0-0-1, 1 point) battled Inter Detroit (0-0-1, 1 point) to a 1-1 draw in the first-ever Midwest Premier League match on Saturday night.

Inter’s Irvin Castro scored the first goal in league history in the 50th minute, after a breakdown by the LCFC backline led to a quick counter-attack that was slotted home at the back post.

LCFC tied things up in the 67th minute when Mohamed Miri leaped over the Inter defenders and headed in Conor Reaume’s cross for the club’s first MWPL league goal.

Head Coach, Gaven King:

“First off, props to Jorge Medina, Inter Detroit, and the great referee crew on an exciting first game in the league. I’m proud of what our coaching staff has done with implementing and improving our player development.

However, there is still plenty to do and improve on. We did have the majority of the possession, but what we do with it is just as important as having it. I’m proud of the team for staying focused after the breakdown that led to the goal and proud they fought hard to equalize in the second half.”

Will Dyer Joins as Men’s Assistant Coach

LCFC is proud to welcome another addition to our coaching staff with Will Dyer joining as Men’s Assistant Coach for the 2021 season.

Dyer currently serves as the Men’s Head Coach for Lawrence Tech University and just finished his 12th season with the school. He also coaches with Michigan Hawks Soccer Club out of Livonia.

Dyer is an Ohio State University alumnus, where he played under Coach Gary Avedikian before an injury, unfortunately, ended his playing career prematurely.

He got his coaching career started at Powell Soccer Clubs, before moving on to Detroit Country Day Middle School where he earned his National Soccer Coaches “National” License and holds a Class “B” License from the United States Soccer Federation.

Coach Dyer has been hard at work already by helping lead our men’s training sessions. Coach Gaven King said “I’ve known Will over the years and I know what he can bring to the club. He is a great coach with a high level of knowledge of the game. I and the rest of our staff are looking forward to working with him this season.”

Dyer shared his excitement as well, saying “I’ve been a fan of what the club has done for a few years now and I’m excited to join a top-class organization at Livonia City FC and work with some great Metro Detroit players. I’m thankful for Coach King and Craig Beebe for the opportunity and I’m looking forward to a great Spring/Summer with them and the boys!”.

We’ll have more news to share this week including the release of our tickets!
