November 3rd, 2021 - Livonia City FC is delighted to announce that Matthew Brown has been appointed as our Men’s First Team Head Coach. He will lead the team for the Midwest Premier League season as they look to improve on a rough 2021.
Matt spent last season as our U23 Men’s Head Coach where he developed our U23 players in the Michigan Premier Soccer League (MPSL) Premier Division, and the MPSL League Cup.
A former player with Spring Arbor University, Brown currently serves as Assistant Coach for SAU under Head Coach, Marco Bernardini. He also has previous coaching experience with the University of Saint Francis (IN) and Fort Wayne Sport Club. Brown currently holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) F Coaching License and is working towards his D License.
Club President, Ben Lightner, said: “We’re very excited to have Matt leading our men’s side as he was our top choice and came highly recommended by multiple players. We believe he’s a great fit and will help us with improving on our results in the MWPL from this past season.”
Matthew Brown had this to say: “First, I want to thank God for everything he’s done for me to get to this point and for all that He will continue to do along this journey. I also want to thank my wife, Faith, and my daughter, Myla. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them in my corner and cheering for me along the way.
Lastly, I want to thank Ben Lightner and Ben Rode for giving me this opportunity. I’m beyond excited to take over as the Head Coach for LCFC. This club is special and it has continued to show excellence through adversity. I know there’s work still to be done to get the club back to where it can be, but I am confident that the team, the rest of the coaching staff, and myself can get the club back to its winning ways.”
Brown is a Toronto, Canada native and currently resides in Spring Arbor with his wife and daughter.
More news on the rest of our coaching staff for 2022 will be announced shortly and keep an eye out on our social media for our men’s tryout announcement later this week!
