Match Recap | Livonia City Battles to 1-1 Draw in MWPL Opener

Auburn Hills, MI (April 17th, 2021) – Livonia City FC (0-0-1, 1 point) battled Inter Detroit (0-0-1, 1 point) to a 1-1 draw in the first-ever Midwest Premier League match on Saturday night.

Inter’s Irvin Castro scored the first goal in league history in the 50th minute, after a breakdown by the LCFC backline led to a quick counter-attack that was slotted home at the back post.

LCFC tied things up in the 67th minute when Mohamed Miri leaped over the Inter defenders and headed in Conor Reaume’s cross for the club’s first MWPL league goal.

Head Coach, Gaven King:

“First off, props to Jorge Medina, Inter Detroit, and the great referee crew on an exciting first game in the league. I’m proud of what our coaching staff has done with implementing and improving our player development.

However, there is still plenty to do and improve on. We did have the majority of the possession, but what we do with it is just as important as having it. I’m proud of the team for staying focused after the breakdown that led to the goal and proud they fought hard to equalize in the second half.”

MWPL Match Preview | Livonia City FC vs. Inter Detroit

Livonia (Friday, April 16th, 2021) – Our men’s team will travel to Pontiac tonight to face off against Inter Detroit with hopes of kick-starting a successful Midwest Premier League (MWPL) campaign. Today’s match is not only our first league match of the season but also the first league match in MWPL history.

Inter Detroit is also a founding member of the MWPL after spending the 2020 season in the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) and like LCFC, Inter also started in the Michigan Premier Soccer League (MPSL). They will also have their reserve team in the MPSL this season along with LCFC. While both clubs have already spent time in the same league together, this will be the first-ever match between the first teams.

LCFC will look to build off the momentum from the 3 to 2 victory over Teranga Lions in the USASA Region 2 Amateur Cup this past Saturday, against what is expected to be a competitive Inter roster led by newly appointed Head Coach, Jorge Medina.

  • Kyle Breitmeyer is back in the squad after recovering from a preseason injury and is listed as probable. Mo Miri and Tim Breckwoldt are both making their debuts with the club.
  • Mac Bechard is unavailable after being injured in our Amateur Cup First Round match this past Saturday
